SPRAVATO® for Treatment-Resistant Depression: Jennifer’s Real Patient Story of Recovery

After decades of living with treatment-resistant depression, Jennifer found relief with SPRAVATO® treatment at Greenbrook Mental Wellness Centers.

Can SPRAVATO® help treatment-resistant depression?

For patients who haven’t found relief from traditional antidepressants, SPRAVATO® (esketamine) nasal spray offers a clinically proven alternative. Greenbrook patient, Jennifer, shares how her life changed after decades of depression and what others can expect from treatment.

Jennifer’s Story: Living with Treatment-Resistant Depression

Jennifer had spent the better part of her adult life searching for relief from her depression. Since the age of 18, she had tried nearly every medication and therapy available, but depression still had a strong grip on her everyday life.

Like many people living with treatment-resistant depression, her symptoms impacted every aspect of her daily life:

  • Missing work due to lack of motivation
  • Withdrawing from friends and family
  • Struggling with basic self-care

“I would call out of work because I just couldn’t bring myself to get out of bed. I was not taking care of myself, my family, or my household. I would isolate myself from friends and family.”

When Jennifer learned about SPRAVATO®, she was unsure but hopeful. “When I heard about SPRAVATO®, I was skeptical, but optimistic that maybe there was something out there that could help me,” she recalls.

How Jennifer Found SPRAVATO® Treatment

Jennifer’s path to Greenbrook came through an unexpected source: a co-worker. After starting a new job, she connected with a colleague who had lived through similar struggles and had found her way to SPRAVATO® treatment.

“She told me about Greenbrook and SPRAVATO® and how much it changed her life,” says Jennifer. “She continued to help me by sharing her experience with me and checking in with me throughout my treatment.”

When Jennifer arrived at Greenbrook’s Glen Burnie location in the winter of 2025, she was 53 years old and had carried her depression with her for more than three decades. What she found at Greenbrook was different from anything that she had encountered before when seeking help.

The results of SPRAVATO® came quickly. By the end of her first week of treatment, Jennifer began noticing a shift in herself, and soon after, the people around her were noticing it as well.

Jennifer began documenting her SPRAVATO® journey on TikTok to do what her co-worker did for her and spread awareness about treatment options for depression outside of typical medications and talk therapy.

Life After Treatment

The changes that Jennifer experienced weren’t small quality-of-life changes; they were fundamental. The daily tasks became easier to check off her to-do list, her relationships with her friends began healing, and she became more present with her family again.

“My life has completely changed since starting treatment. For the first time that I can remember, I go to bed at night and actually want to wake up in the morning,” she says. “I am making plans with friends and going out with them. I’m not calling out of work. I’m taking care of my mind and my body.”

For anyone can see themselves in Jennifer’s story, the years of trying, the quiet hopelessness, the wondering if anything will ever work, she has a simple message: “Just give it a try. There are so many positive things that can come out of it. But you don’t know until you try.”
