TMS THERAPY
FDA-cleared, non-medication depression treatment
Fibromalgia is a common syndrome in which a person has long-term, body-wide pain and tenderness in the joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. It has also been linked to fatigue, sleep problems, headaches, depression, and anxiety[1]. Pain can drastically alter and reduce a person’s quality of life and current treatment options – including antidepressants[2] – are known for causing unwanted side effects. While TMS Therapy has so far only been FDA cleared for the treatment of Major Depression, there have been several studies suggesting that TMS can also be extremely beneficial for other disorders and diseases, such as Fibromyalgia. A study on the Efficacy of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation and Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Treating Fibromyalgia Syndrome has concluded that TMS showed analogous pain reductions as well as considerably fewer side effects compared to FDA approved FMS pharmaceuticals[3].

More studies and trials are needed to investigate just how beneficial can TMS be to treat and even cure Fibromyalgia, but for now early results indicate TMS may be the treatment needed to alleviate chronic pain.
TMS therapy is currently being studied for the treatment of other conditions such as Anxiety, Bipolar disorders, Alzheimer’s, patients who have suffered with stroke. Greenbrook TMS is devoted to keeping track of recent advances involving TMS therapy.
