TMS THERAPY
FDA-cleared, non-medication depression treatment
The first successful transcranial magnetic stimulation was performed in 1985 and it has opened doors for a widespread variety of therapy interventions for a multitude of diseases, with depression being the most studied area. Although transcranial magnetic stimulation has been around for over 20 years, it’s only in recent years that it has become a widely acceptable and valuable treatment for major depression. This is due to investigators worldwide completing more than 30 randomized, controlled clinical trials proving time and time again that TMS Therapy is an effective treatment for depression.[1]

NeuroStar TMS Therapy® is an FDA cleared treatment for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adult patients who have failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from one prior antidepressant medication at or above the minimal effective dose and duration in the current episode. One controlled clinical trial showed that 1 in 2 patients suffering with depression improved significantly and 1 in 3 were completely free of depression symptoms after six weeks of treatment[2].
New data released this week at the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association shows that results of treatment with the NeuroStar TMS Therapy System® is maintaining its durability after one year of treatment. Many of these individuals report increased response to TMS Therapy even after completion of the treatment.
“The durability of NeuroStar TMS Therapy demonstrated by this robust, real-world study is remarkable, as it’s not typical to see long-term benefit in patients who have treatment resistant forms of depression,” said Dr. Philip Janicak, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry at Rush University, and Medical Director of the Rush Psychiatric Clinical Research Center. “The study reinforces the sustained efficacy of NeuroStar TMS Therapy in a majority of patients with depression who have not found relief through oral antidepressant medication.”[3]
